1st Taxi provide a taxi service to the Anniesland area 24 hours a day.
There are generally two types of taxi on the streets around Scotland – the hackney carriage and the private hire vehicle. Taxis in Anniesland can be a mixture of the two, though private hire vehicles tend to be the more common. But what is the difference?
A hackney carriage, or a hack, is the type of taxi you see sitting on a taxi rank around the town or at train stations. These can be hailed on the street, will stop and pick you up then take you to your destination. Plates and colours vary in different areas though the classic hackney cab is the London black cab.
A private hire taxi will also have a plate on it and may come in different colours. They also tend to be normal cars, as opposed to the special taxi cab often used for hackney carriages. Private hire vehicles are booked in advance through the taxi office. They will collect you at a specific point and time then take you on to your destination. These taxis can’t stop on the street when you hail them unless you already have a booking with them.
Regardless of which type of taxi you use, the driver within it will have the same standard of checks conducted before he or she gets their license. This means they will have had a criminal record check and will have passed a knowledge test to ensure they are able to do the job to the highest standard.
